To be honest, I'm not a sports fan. I know a few things here and there, but my involvement in sports is limited to my PE classes and a few years of playing kickball in highschool.
Given this, I must admit I know very little about the Celtics-Lakers rivalry. But according to my research and to some things I heard from followers of NBA, its peak was when Larry Bird still played for Celtics and Magic Johnson for Lakers. They say the rivalry between the two players can be traced back in 1979 when Bird and Johnson played against each others' teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). When the two met again for the NBA finals in the 80s, they were again pitted against each other. However, followers say the heat between the two teams is less intense now.
Nevertheless, even if I don't follow NBA as much as others do, I take the Celtics side. Sure, I know Michael Jordan from my childhood. I know his jersey number and his great performance in the basketball court. He even has a movie. However, I still prefer the greener side.
I guess this was mostly because of my uncle's influence. He's one of those yuppies who would watch NBA games and together with his friends, place bets on certain teams. He's always been for Celtics. So in 2008, for the lack of TV shows to watch, I watched NBA with him and I got to see how the Celtics performed during the final games. I guess I liked the fact that they play as a team in court. There are a few players that stand out like Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. But unlike Lakers, where we can clearly see Kobe Bryant dominating the game, Celtics' play as a team is still evident.
